疾病管制署は、「侵襲性肺炎球菌に感染すると肺炎や敗血症、髄膜炎など重篤な合併症を引き起こすことがあり、乳幼児や65歳以上の高齢者に多く見られるが、その死亡率は5～8％になる。台湾では、2023年10月から、65歳以上の高齢者と19～64歳の侵襲性肺炎球菌感染症（IPD）のハイリスク者を相次ぎ公費ワクチン接種対象に組み入れ、13価結合型肺炎球菌ワクチン（以下、13価ワクチン）の1回接種及び23価肺炎球菌多糖体ワクチン（以下、23価ワクチン）の1回接種を実施している。予防は治療に勝る。接種資格のある人は1+1の計2回のワクチン接種を受けることで完全な免疫防御を獲得し、中等症・重症化のリスクを効果的に75%低減させるように」と発表した。

The Centers for Disease Control stated that infection with pneumococcal bacteria can cause invasive infections and serious complications such as pneumonia, sepsis, and meningitis, which are more common in infants and elderly people over 65 years old, with a mortality rate of 5-8%. Since October 2023, our country has gradually included elderly people over 65 years old and high-risk people aged 19-64 for invasive pneumococcal infection (IPD) into the public pneumococcal vaccination implementation targets, providing 1 dose of 13-valent conjugate pneumococcal vaccine (referred to as 13-valent vaccine) and 1 dose of 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (referred to as 23-valent vaccine) for vaccination. 疾病管制署表示，感染肺炎鏈球菌後可引起肺炎、敗血症、腦膜炎等侵襲性感染與嚴重併發症，好發於嬰幼兒及65歲以上長者，死亡率可達5-8%。我國已於2023年10月起陸續將65歲以上長者及19-64歲侵襲性肺炎鏈球菌感染症(IPD)高風險對象納入公費肺炎鏈球菌疫苗接種實施對象，提供1劑13價結合型肺炎鏈球菌疫苗(簡稱13價疫苗)及1劑 23價肺炎鏈球菌多醣體疫苗(簡稱23價疫苗)接種。預防勝於治療，呼籲符合接種資格民眾儘速完成1+1共2劑接種，以獲得完整的免疫保護力，有效減少中重症發生風險達7成5。
