マダニは主に野生で生息しており、その一部は新型ブニヤウイルスなどの種々の病原性細菌やウイルスを有しており、咬まれると重症熱性血小板減少症候群（宮本注：中文を直訳すると発熱を伴う血小板減少症候群ですが、以下SFTSとして訳出します）を引き起こす恐れがある。毎年4月～10月にかけてダニが活発に活動をすると言われており、今でも少なからずのダニが「侵入し襲」っているのだ。近頃では、南京市第二医院湯山区の感染症科ではダニによる症例多数を診察しており、重症患者の中には死亡した人もいる。

After being bitten, they can easily cause severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome. It is reported that ticks are actively growing from April to October every year, and there are still many ticks “invading”.
