疾病管制署（以下CDC）は8月9日、「台湾でネグレリア・フォーレリ・アメーバ髄膜脳炎による死亡例が発生したが、患者は北部在住の30代女性で、最近の海外渡航歴はなく、発症前には室内親水施設に遊びに行っていた。彼女は今日（2023年）7月26日に頭痛や肩・首の凝りが現れ、続いて発熱や悪寒、頭痛、首の痛み、けいれんを起こして病院を受診した。その後病状が急速に悪化、8月1日に死亡；診療をした病院が「原因不明の脳炎」を報告し、検体を採取してCDC検査室に送付したところ、「ネグレリア・フォーレリ」感染による髄膜脳炎であることが確認されたほか、地元衛生単位が既に屋内親水施設の環境検査を実施し、感染源の解明にあたるとともに、感染症予防治療法第21条に基づき、事業者に対し予防
