Reporter learned from the Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau, that Guangzhou City detected H7N9 positive specimens collected from Zengcheng Xingfa meat market’s 3 environmental samples, in the evening of January 3, 2014. After review and identification, the Guangdong Provincial CDC confirmed that the market’s two goose cages and one market sewage sample were detected as positive for avian influenza virus.
According to Guangzhou City CDC expert’s information, currently 17 poultry practitioners in the market have shown no suspicious symptoms temporarily. The market closed for three days from October 4, 2014. This is the second time for Guangzhou City since last May when Zengcheng Licheng R&F meat market’s one sample was for the first time detected positive results for H7N9 avian flu virus.
According to Yang Zhicong, deputy director of Guangzhou CDC, the three positive samples found were from the two bird sales stalls in the same market.
