The bird’s carcass was recently found and picked up at a base in the nursing area, and the initial test for H5 virus on January 24 was positive. The White-rumped Curlew is a winter migratory bird, mainly found in the intertidal zone including the Deep Bay area where Mai Po is located.

香港特别行政区渔农自然护理署（渔护署）发言人（一月二十六日）表示，一只在米埔自然护理区（护理区）捡走的白腰杓鹬尸体证实对H5N1禽流感病毒测试呈阳性反应。
该只雀鸟尸体日前在护理区内一基围被发现及捡走，并于一月二十四日进行的H5病毒初步测试中呈阳性反应。白腰杓鹬是冬候鸟，主要在包括米埔所在的后海湾一带的潮间带出没。
