低病原性から高病原性への変化
H5N6亜型鳥インフルエンザウィルスは、最初に1975年にアメリカのマガモの体内から分離された。 当初、H5N6亜型鳥インフルエンザウィルスは、アメリカやドイツ、スウェーデンの鳥類（主にアヒル）の中で低病原性の状態で流行していたが、極めてまれに鳥類に明確なインパクトを与えていた。

Changing from low pathogenic to high pathogenic
H5N6 avian influenza virus was first isolated from American mallard in 1975. In the past, the H5N6 subtype of avian influenza virus had been endemic to poultry (mainly ducks) in the United States, Germany and Sweden in a low incidence of disease but seldom had significant impact on poultry.
In December 2013, Jiangsu province, for the first time, found the H5N6 subtype of avian flu virus during their surveillance of the avian flu in a live poultry market. Our scientists analyzed the genes of the virus and found that the H5N6 subtype of avian influenza virus turned out to be a recombination of the H5N1 and H6N6 avian influenza virus genes, among them, at least six of these genes are from the H5N1 HPAI virus, which has the characteristic of high pathogenicity. Soon, outbreaks of the highly pathogenic H5N6 subtype of avian flu occurred in poultry in Laos, Vietnam and China.

H5N6亚型禽流感病毒是1975年首先从美国绿头鸭体内分离出来的。以往，H5N6亚型禽流感病毒曾以低致病状态在美国、德国、瑞典的禽类动物（主要是鸭）中流行，但很少对禽类动物产生明显影响。
