The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated today (24th) that Taiwan has discovered 4 cases of neonatal infection with Legionnaires’ disease this year (2023). The health unit has completed the investigation of the epidemic and collected environmental samples for testing. After comparing the samples from the 4 cases, the pulsed electrophoresis (PFGE) typing patterns of the strains isolated from samples of water facilities related to the postnatal care home are homologous. It cannot be ruled out that the source of the infection of the case may be related to the pipes such as drinking fountains or faucets in the care units.
