CDCは現在COVID-19の流行期にあり上昇傾向を呈しえいるが、先週（1月16日～1月22日）新たに増えた本土確診症例（合併症）は615例となり、前週（2024年1月9日～1月15日）の537例（宮本注： 前回は538例と報じたはずです）から上昇したが、合併症のうち65歳以上の高齢者が79％を占めていた；更に、先週新たに増えた死者数は44例となり、前週の死者数55例と比して下降しており、死者中では65歳以上の高齢者が90％を占めていた；昨年9月26日に新型コロナのXBBワクチンの接種を開始して以来、本土で通報された確診合併症者数と死者数中ではXBBワクチン未接種者がそれぞれ98％及び99％となっている。過去4週間に観測されている変異株の総計は、本土症例中から検出されたウイルスはEG.5 が主（48％：10％の減少）及びJN.1（41％：10%増）が多く、これにXBB.1.5（7％：2％増加）が次いでおり；輸入症例中から検出されたウイルスについてはJN.1が主（76％：10％の増加）が最多であり、
